The inspiration ...
The red shoes that I used for the “transformation”, were one of my favourite. While still extremely comfy, I had worn them in so much, that they were no longer fit for a public appearance. I chose a deep gold colour for the transformation. Happy with my new glam and sparkly shoes (heart)
How I made them
- Old pair of shoes
- Glitter in your colour of choice
- Spray paint (in colour of glitter)
- Fabric glue
- Masking tape
- Foam brushes
Sand down the shoes with sandpaper. The rough surface creates a better surface for the glitter to stick to. Using the masking tape, carefully cover the heel and the sole of the shoe.
Wipe the shoe with a cloth and then spray paint the shoe (work in a well ventilated area –preferably outdoors). I went ahead and sprayed the inside of the shoe as well - this gives the shoe a more complete look. Allow to dry.
Once the spray paint has dried, working on a newspaper covered surface, begin to apply glue to the shoe. I applied the glue a section at a time so that the glue wouldnt dry.
Bit by bit, cover the entire shoe with glitter, tapping the heel as you go to shake of excess glitter. This will also reveal any "bald spots" on your shoe.
Once the entire shoe is completely covered with glitter, give it a light shake and leave to dry for an entire day. Carefully remove the masking tape and touch up and bits that are not covered. It is advisable to spray the shoe with a clear adhesive sealant to ensure that the glitter does not fall off during wear.
Enjoy your good as new shoes :)
