I am utterly and completely smitten by the Dolce and Gabbana look for winter 2014.
No, like seriously, everything about it is everything I love to wear. I literally lust all of the looks that walked the run way. My favourite colour is deep red and black and I am a huge fan of lace, always was and always will be. So to see how stunningly D&G pulled of this look was a huge treat. Sophisticated, well tailored and classy.

We might have new neighbors – I say might :), and uhm, yes, I have been peeking a little :P. This little fellow is what I call a weaver bird (because of the manner in which he meticulously weaves his nest – like I said, I have been peeking). He recently built a 3rd version of his home. Three times is allot, but once he builds his home, his little lady bird comes around to check it out, if she doesn’t like it, he tears it apart and starts all over again. I am always so sad to see the nest destroyed . . . I hope she likes it this time around and they stay . . . I have a secret wish to see little nestlings take their first flight :)
Movember is an annual month long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness of prostate cancer and other male cancer associated charities. The event is a global one that has spread from Australia to South Africa, Europe and North America. As of 2011 Canadians were the largest contributors to the Movember charities of any nation. The Movember foundation runs the Movember charity event. You can make your donation at za.movember.com or movember.com and “get your MO On” to create awareness around prostate cancer.
In support of the movember and raising awareness about prostate and testicular cancer, I got my Mo on and came up with a few Mo inspired crafts. Click on the creativity tab to get the how. p.s. Artisctically, I think the "Mo" is rather quaint. I love the artistic work by Andrew Bannecker and his use of moustaches in his work.
I am so proud of this fun DIY project. What started out as a frame doodle turned into a cute fridge magnet. A bit old-school, but it works. The frames are so colourful and fun, what’s best is that they are so easy to make. You dont have to limit yourself to the fridge magnet version only. See how I made them here.
Ah, the paper-clip flag, inspired by an internet search on paper clips (don’t judge me), this was a clever and functional idea born out of sheer necessity. I work as a risk manager in an insurance/properties company - like many others working behind a PC and mountains of paper, there is never just one thing that we are working on at any given point. With bits and bobs all over the place, I needed a quick way to mark and find things. So in response to that, I created these quick and easy cheap paper clip flags (all you need is paper, paper clips, glue and sticky tape). They literally stick out and are colourful enough to draw my attention to them. (I tried sticky note type markers, but after sticking and unsticking them over and over, they tend to die on you by the time you hit the 7th attempt)
You don’t have to use them like I do, I think they make perfectly good page/book markers as well. See how I made them here
I never thought this day would come but it did :) - I am so excited that the peppers are coming to S.A. I have been literally waiting since I was 16 years old, and finally, the day is here! Tickets are selling out quick, so get clicking. Shows are in JHB on the 2 February 2013, and CAPE TOWN on the 3 February 2012. www.computicket.com
After the change in weather and snow in most of South Africa, I was unfortunately down with the flu. Looking at the crumpled pile of white tissues strewn in my vicinity and the wads of un-used tissue in my handbag, I decided to make something that will be of tremendous use to me. A dainty tissue holder. It’s petite size together with the pretty beading makes it a practical and pretty keep for any handbag or even pocket.
You don’t have to use it for your tissues only, you can also use it to keep business cards safe from make-up. See how I made it here.
Ok, so remember in my post of DIY glitter heels, I said that I was on the hunt for more things to “glitterize” ... well, I found the ultimate manicure trend and I am so loving it. The accent ring finger nail trend.
Apparently, the trends comes directly from the Vivienne Westwood runways and Leighton Denny. The “accent ring finger nail trend” is become increasingly popular, with celebrities such as Beyonce and Vanessa Hudgens also indulging in the look. I personally think the trend is a mixture of fun, flirty and a bit of glam balanced with sophistication (it’s subtle).
Get the look
It’s simple really, paint all but your ring finger in the same colour – then use a contrasting pop of colour, nail art or glitter to emphasise the ring finger (only)
To create a glitter accent ring finger nail, you will need:
- Nail polish in colour of your choice,
- Clear nail polish
- Fine glitter in colour of your choice (choose complimentary or accent colours)
- Top coat.
-Paint all your finger nails on your left and right hand, save for the ring finger on your left hand.
-Only once all the other fingers are dry, paint your ring finger in clear nail-polish and while still wet, sprinkle on the fine glitter. The reason why all the other nails are dry is so that the glitter doesn’t stick to them as well...
-Wait to dry, brush of excess and then look for any spots that you might have missed. Repeat the process on exposed bits.
-Once the nail is well covered and dry, brush of all excess glitter and paint over a top-coat to seal.
Do I have a treat for you. Mr Price is by far one of my favourite stores, so imagine my sheer delight when I logged onto their site today, to find out that you can now shop on-line. YAY – (And not so YAY, cos Im gona spend a whole lot more).
No more seeing stuff in the catalogue or in glossy’s, and by the time I actually go into a store, its either not in stock as yet, or its sold out...
How is this for a difference, you can flick through the catalogue, and if you like it, simply click and add to your cart. The range is enormous, the prices are still great value for your money and always, 100% on trend. But I do caution, if you are anything like me, some things are best fitted first. Use your discretion.
You can sign up at Mr Price.
p.s. If you are in Gauteng, DO visit the MR price super-store at Sandton City. It’s nothing like the usual warehouse and over-packed hangers of a typical Mr Price store.
Some of my picks while I was at it
I like their sugar doll and aloha trends...
I got this in my inbox and I loved it. ha ha ha. I love pugs, especially my mums pug called Ozzie - cutest thing ever - those eyes are adorable more expressive than any other breed. . .
